BLOOD CANCER
Blood cancer or Leukaemia Treatments are available at top cancer hospitals in India. When compared to other parts of the world, blood cancer treatment in India is affordable.
The red blood cells (RBC), platelets (which is also called as monocytes since it belongs to “myeloid” group) and white blood cells that belong to “lymphoid” group are major components of blood. If a Lymphoid cells are affected, disease occurs quickly. This most commonly occurs in children. Blood cancer is a group of disease which impede with the normal functioning of blood cells and weaken the regular system in the blood. Blood cancer is otherwise known as leukaemia which is classified as Acute or Chronic. Blood test and urine test may also be tested for various reasons to identify the exact problem.
Tumour markers are chemicals made by tumour cells but tumour is also produced by some normal cells in the body where lymphoid cells will get affected initially. Causes of blood cancer may be too much exposure to radiation, tiredness, bleeding, exposure to chemicals, genetic factors (chromosomal abnormalities), Human T-cell Leukaemia Virus (HTLV), weight loss, bruising and prolonged fever.
Treatments for Blood Cancer:
Chemotherapy is the only way to destroy the abnormal cancer cells in the blood. If the leukaemia returns, intensive treatment can be given. This type of treatment involves a bone marrow or a stem cell transplant. Stem cells can be collected from a leukaemia patient’s own blood or from a donor. Chemotherapy will be given before the transplantation; high doses of chemotherapy and radiotherapy are given to destroy all the damaged bone marrow.
Bone marrow transplant is the procedure to replace the destroyed or damaged bone marrow with the healthy bone marrow stem cells. The bone marrow transplant is otherwise called as hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Bone marrow is soft & fatty tissues which are located inside the bones. The stem cells have the ability to produce different types of blood cells such as red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. These blood cells are released into the blood streams. Bone marrow is two types, yellow marrow and red marrow.
