Arthroscopy Shoulder Surgery
Arthroscopy shoulder treatment in India is a very common orthopaedic procedure performed at most of the leading hospitals.Arthroscopy surgery is the surgical procedure, which is used to inspect, diagnose and repair problems in the joints. For instance, if a person undergoes a shoulder dislocation, arthroscopy procedures are helpful for diagnosis, treatment, and early recovery. Since the surgical instruments used for arthroscopy are very thin and only small incisions are required, this surgery will help patient experience less pain. Moreover, the need for a hospital stay is also shortened, which in turn enables the patient return to his / her normal day to day activities with fast recovery.
Anatomy of Shoulder:
The shoulder joint is considered to be the most complex joint than any other joints in the body. This is because the range of motion is more in the shoulder joint. The shoulder joint is made up of three bones, which includes,
Indications:
Shoulder arthroscopy is recommended for patients with below said conditions;
Risks of Surgery:
Similar to any other surgeries, arthroscopic surgery also has certain risks involved in it, that include,
Pre-Operative Care:
All the essential investigations for the patients will be done by the surgeon before the surgery. Based on the patient’s current health condition and treatment requirements, the investigation procedure may vary. To say, if the patient is taking anticoagulant medicines, then it needs to be withheld at least five days before the surgery and the fitness is obtained from the anaesthetist and the general physician.
Surgical Procedure:
Positioning for the procedure is very important for a successful performance of the surgery. This positioning will also help to obtain a clear view of the shoulder. The two common positions are Beach chair position and the lateral decubitus position. Once the surgeons become comfortable with the position, then they will inject the fluid into the shoulder region to inflate the joint. This helps the surgeons to view the entire structures of the shoulder through the arthroscope. The surgeon will make a very small incision to insert the arthroscope and the images are projected on the video screen. Once the problems are identified the surgeons will do the corrections accordingly, using arthroscopic instruments.
Postoperative Care:
The patient may get discharged on the very same day of the surgery or on the next day, based on his / her health condition. Pain management will be taken care in the immediate postoperative period. Even though the recovery is faster, it may still take a few more weeks to completely recover. Little pain and discomfort will be there for a week after
the surgery. The surgeons take care of pain management through appropriate medications. Arm slings are usually given to reduce the mobility.
Rehabilitation:
This helps the patient to completely regain his / her daily routine activities. A regular exercise regimen should be followed with the help of a physiotherapist, which helps the patient for the good prognosis.
